Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

What are the Different Types of Tile?

There are three main types of tile: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

The two most common and well-known tile options are ceramic and porcelain. All porcelain tiles are ceramic, but not all ceramic tiles are porcelain. Porcelain tiles are heated at a much higher temperature and are very resistant to heat and moisture. They are also a great option for outdoor patios. Both ceramic and porcelain are available in traditional tile looks and a wide array of vibrant or neutral colors, and even follow trends like wood look. We even offer high-end stone tiles for our customers looking for a unique look for their home. Stone tiles feature unique mineral patterns, and can be sealed to be stain and water resistant.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

You can install tile anywhere in your home because it is inherently durable and resistant to heat and moisture. Ceramic and porcelain are especially popular in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, but they also can be installed in living rooms and basements. Other tile options such as porcelain and stone can even be used outside as a patio or walkway.

As we mentioned earlier, tile can be installed on more than just floors. We offer tile that can be installed on walls, and even tile that can be installed as a custom shower stall. To learn more about tile applications, stop by our showroom and speak with our flooring professionals.
