Learn About Hardwood Flooring
At Tuttle’s Carpet One Floor & Home in Laguna Niguel, CA, we are here to help you create that coveted and comfortable place that you look forward to coming home to night after night. Of all of the flooring options, nothing says timeless quite like hardwood flooring. Wood floors have been around for a long time, and hardwood’s long-lasting properties can add a great depth of history to your home as they age year after year.
Hardwood floors can be made from a number of different species of wood and we carry a wide selection of colors, types and finishes in our store for you to choose from. The style options are endless; from country to rustic to farmhouse chic, we’ve got it all. Some of our most popular products are made from wood from:
Pine is a strong wood that’s durability is the perfect platform to stand up to heavy foot traffic. This makes pine an optimal choice for spaces like an entry way, living room or kitchen. Pine exudes a lovely golden brown color that works well as a neutral you can build off of.
Like pine, white oak is a durable option that will often last for years. This makes white oak a good choice for busy families, even ones with young kids or pets. White oak is very uniform and clean in appearance. It is also a more economical option.
Although not exactly classic hardwood, cork and bamboo are options that look and perform in similar ways to hardwood but are gaining in popularity due to their eco-friendly attributes.
Solid vs Engineered Hardwood
Solid hardwood features a simple construction made of one solid piece of wood from top to bottom. Thickness typically varies, but on average you can choose from ¾” or 5/16” thick. Solid hardwood features unmatched characteristics that set it apart from other flooring options. It can also be sanded and refinished. Engineered hardwood floors are made of multiple real wood veneers whose grains run in different directions in order to increase stability. This allows the floors to resist expanding and contracting during weather changes. Engineered hardwood floors can also be refinished depending on the thickness of the top layer.
Hardwood flooring is a highly sought-after flooring option, but it isn't the best option for all settings. In fact, hardwood, even engineered hardwood, isn't suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas with moisture. At the same time, we don't recommend choosing hardwood for high traffic areas like commercial settings. Hardwood is, however, appropriate for home settings such as bedrooms and living rooms.
